Video Summary
This episode discusses a study on transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR) in patients who were in sinus rhythm. Using a large UK amyloidosis database, researchers found that left atrial mechanical dysfunction or atrial electromechanical dissociation was common and strongly linked to stroke/TIA risk and future atrial fibrillation, even without prior AF. Patients with no atrial contraction had about a threefold higher stroke risk. The hosts note that anticoagulation may not depend only on rhythm in ATTR, but more study is needed before changing practice. Better screening for AF and atrial function was suggested.
