Ambulatory Cardiac Monitors Unplugged: Choosing the Right Device
Description
This learning session will provide an in-depth understanding of the comparative evidence and the appropriate use of Ambulatory Cardiac Monitors (ACM). Participants will explore the critical aspects of evaluating and applying the evidence in clinical practice to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. The session will cover the evolution of ACMs, highlighting contemporary use and applications.
Learning Objectives
Identify the different types of ambulatory cardiac monitors (ACMs). For example: Holter, long term continuous monitors (LTCM), ambulatory event monitors (AEM), mobile cardiac telemetry (MCT), and implantable loop recorders (ILR)) and understand the differences between each type.
Evaluate the advantages and limitations of each ACM with respect to accuracy and reliability of data, patient compliance, diagnostic yield, technology advancements (AI, form factor, remote monitoring, integration), and future trends associated with each.
Evaluate how the use of each ACM impacts time to diagnosis and treatment, clinical outcomes, and healthcare costs, while exploring which ACMs can provide insights into adjacent fields and health prediction modeling to identify risk earlier in the patient care journey.
