Detecting Deaths of Patients with CIEDs on Remote Monitoring
Description
With remote monitoring being the standard of care for patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices, device clinic staff detect end-of-life arrhythmias. Depending on timing, an intervention may be made to save a life. If the patient cannot be saved, the result can have psychological implications for device clinic staff who have witnessed the event. This session will cover the identification of EOL transmissions, what to do when reviewed, and how to handle feelings if the patient does not survive.
Learning Objectives
  • Describe how to detect potential EOL rhythms with RM transmissions.
  • Summarize what to do when detecting a potential EOL rhythm on RM transmission.
  • Discuss the psychological impact of EOL findings with RM transmissions and how the device clinic staff may manage their feelings.
Session Chair(s)
