Intersection of EP and HF: Building an HF Lens in the EP Clinic: Practical Screening and Initial Assessment Pathways
Description
In this session, Dr. Dhanunjaya (DJ) Lakkireddy makes the case for building a heart failure lens into the EP clinic. He explains the two-way relationship between arrhythmias and heart failure and the growing gap between the number of heart failure patients and specialists available to treat them. He reviews remote monitoring tools, from device-based algorithms like HeartLogic to PA pressure sensors, and shares practical steps EP clinics can take, including a brief heart failure screening at check-in and a dedicated EP heart failure coordinator. He closes by showing how integrated EP and heart failure care can reduce hospitalizations and improve outcomes.

Learning Objectives
  • Describe the bidirectional relationship between heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias.
  • Explain why electrophysiologists are well positioned to help close the gap in heart failure care.
  • Compare device-based remote heart failure diagnostics, including impedance-based and multi-parameter algorithms and PA pressure sensors.
  • Apply a brief heart failure screening and initial assessment pathway in the EP clinic.
  • Outline the key components of an integrated EP and heart failure remote care model.
