Optimizing Genotype-informed Approaches for Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathies – The Latest in Genetic Testing, Risk Stratification, and Exercise (Joint Session)
Description
This session will delineate evidence-based approaches to efficient genetic counseling and testing for arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathies, discuss the implications of genotype for risk stratification and shared decision-making for exercise, and describe the rapidly evolving genetic testing and variant classification landscape which is highly relevant to these conditions. Speakers will discuss both ACM/ARVC associated with desmosomal variants and also the less common arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathies caused by variants in DES, LMNA, RBM20, PLN, and other rarer genotypes.

A joint session with National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC).
Learning Objectives
  • Select an evidence-based genetic counseling and testing strategy that incorporates the evolution of cardiovascular genetic testing technology and variant classification.
  • Summarize the influence of genotype on risk stratification for sudden death in the arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathies and describe gene-specific risk prediction models.
  • Describe the heterogeneity of risk associated with exercise among the arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathies and discuss how genotype can inform shared decision-making for exercise participation.
