Sex-specific Cardiac Electrophysiology and Why it Matters in the Clinic
Description
Sex-specific differences in cardiac electrophysiology manifest from the subcellular to patient levels. As a result, they can significantly impact how we diagnose and treat cardiac rhythm disorders in the EP clinic. With speakers composed of both basic researchers and clinicians, this translational session will include state-of-the-art research on the mechanisms of normal and abnormal sex-specific electrophysiology at multiple scales. The aim is to provide the audience with new information that could help to refine clinical EP guidelines for treating cardiac rhythm disorders.
Learning Objectives
  • Summarize mechanisms of sex-specific electrophysiology.
  • Describe research approaches to study sex-based differences.
  • Outline the consequences for clinical guidelines for diagnosing and treating cardiac rhythm disorders.
