Description

The Health Policy Bundle of HRS 2023 sessions includes complimentary access to the following:

Roundtable/FDA: The ABC’s of EFS: Discussions of Early Feasibility Studies in EP with the FDA, Investigators and Industry - A discussion of actual experiences with US EFS in EP, as well as introduction of available “toolkit” items such as Master Clinical Trial Agreement and EFS focused Patient Consent Documents. Panel will describe key details of success in the process of EFS studies, outline how to develop EFS programs including regulatory and IRB approval, budgeting and contracting, and site start-up, and will discuss the EFS process, its challenges, benefits and key aspects related to success. (Speakers: J. Peter Weiss, MD, MSci, Banner University of Arizona Medical Center, Phoenix & Emily Zeitler, MD, MHS, Dartmouth Health)

Why Does CMS Have it Out For Me? How to Make Sense of Reimbursement and Ensure We Change the Future of Downward Cuts - The 2023 CMS proposed physician fee schedule again saw a marked decrease in reimbursement for SVT, AF, and VT ablation. After the bundling of procedures in 2022 and the subsequent decrease in 2023, HRS members are confused and frustrated. Understanding the role of HRS and ACC advocacy in the AMA RUC process along with how CMS determines rates will be instrumental. Most importantly, defining what value in EP is will change the paradigm. (Speakers: Jodie Hurwitz, MD, North Texas Heart Center & Samuel Jones, MD, MPH, Chattanooga Heart Institute)

EP Workforce: Models and Trends - Panel will explore the future of the EP workforce including recent trends and reasons for changes, overcoming the challenges of gender disparity in EP, and the pros and cons of EP Practice and Employment models. (Speakers: Rhea Pimentel, MD, University of Kansas Health System & Mark Schoenfeld, MD, Yale University School of Medicine)

FDA and Pediatric Approval - This session will explore the relationship of the FDA and the Pediatric medical community and provide a forum for discussion. (Speakers: Rohan Kumthekar, MD, Nationwide Children’s Hospital & Elizabeth Saarel, MD, St. Luke’s Health System)
